Sampath Kumar Voora

 
 
Ever since I left Annamalai in 1960, my life has been filled with a lot of interesting adventures.


In my academic life, I received M.Tech in chemical plant design and fabrication from IIT Kharagpur in 1961; M.Sc in chemical engineering from University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, Canada in 1964 and had one year stint at Yale University(62-63) as a candidate for Ph.D but never completed.


In my professional life, I worked as a chemical process design engineer from 1964-68 at Union Carbide Canada Limited, chemicals and plastics division in Montreal , Quebec . Afterwards I went into teaching chemistry, physics and math to senior students at college level from 1968-98 in Toronto and Burlington , Ontario . After thirty years of teaching I retired in 1998 and then moved to Hamilton , Ontario in 1999.


In my social life, I met a French Canadian mademoiselle in Montreal , Madeleine by name and a nurse by profession. We both got married in 1968 and have been quite busy raising four children. Our first daughter, Komala, is a practising Physiotherapist. Our second daughter, Vidya, is an Industrial Designer and is married to a Moroccan. Our first son, Vivek, is a chemical engineer working as a Project Manager for the International Institute for Sustainable Development. Our second son, Jagan is an Electrical Engineer, marketing solar panels and solar energy products.


In my retired life, I voluntarily served the following organizations: President of The Hindu Temple Society of Canada ; President of Telugu Cultural Association of Greater Toronto; Director of IIT Alumni Canada; Director of Panorama India . Presently I am the Founder-President of Telugu Seniors Society Canada .


Along with my wife Madeleine, I hope to meet you all in 2010 for the GJR celebrations.
