R. Rajagopalan

 
 
Born in Mannargudi,  Thanjavur district  Rajagopalan was educated in Annamalai University, Indian Institute of Science, Northwestern University and the University of Missouri where he earned his Ph.D in Electrical Engineering.  His research interests were Artificial Intelligence and Computer Aided Circuit Analysis.


        He joined International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) in 1968 and retired in 1995 after a 14 year stint in Technology management.  In addition to Technology management he was also responsible for University Relations and Academic Support Programs which included funding universities for research related to storage technology, faculty development awards, pre doctoral fellowships and corporate Ph.D recruiting.  His experience in IBM includes Microelectronics, Design Automation, and Signal Processing and Coding for Storage Systems.   


        He was a member of the industrial advisory committee of the college of engineering, University of Arizona.  In 1988, while at IBM, he joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Arizona as Visiting Professor to teach courses related to his experience in IBM.   After retiring from IBM he continued as Visiting Professor under IBM’s Technical Academic Career Program where IBM selected every year one or two qualified retirees in good standing to teach science or engineering.    He retired from the university in 2002.


        He is a Life Senior Member of  IEEE and a past member of the American Society for Engineering Education.  He is also a graduate of IBM Systems Research Institute.


        He is married to Rajalakshmi who is now a school psychologist.  They have three sons, Ravichander, Rajmohan and Ranjithkumar.  Ravi is married to Shanthi.
