S.Chendur Pandian hails from a village called Sakkammalpuram in Tuticorin District of Tamilnadu. He is otherwise known as S.C.Pandian. S.C.Pandian obtained the degree of B.E.(Honours) in civil engineering from Annamalai University in the year 1960.

After grduation, he joined Neyveli Lignite Corporation and worked in NLC for three years. He left NLC in 1963 and joined the services in Indian Railways through UPSC. He served in South Eastern Railways for 15 years in various capacities both in construction and Track-Maintenance. In 1978, he went on deputation to RITES organisation at New Delhi and served for two years in various projects including that of NTPC at Korba and Survey-work for a cement factory siding at Nepal Territory for the Government of Nepal.

From 1980 to 1985 ( for 5 years ) Indian Railways deputed him on Secondment to Nigerian Railway Corporation in Nigeria (Africa ). During his tenure in Nigeria, he had the opportunity of travelling in USA and in Europe. On completion of the Secondment, he was posted in N.F.Railway at Gauhati. He served in N.F.Railway for three years and then came to Central Railway at Mumbai in the year 1988. After serving Central Railway in various capacities for seven years, he retired from Railway service in 1995 as Chief Engineer.

After retirement from Railways, he joined Indian Railway Construction Company (IRCON) as an Adviser to CIDCO Projects in Navi Mumbai. He served IRCON for 5 years and finally retired in the year 2000.

S.Chendur pandian got married to Prema, who passed away in the year 2002. They have two sons, Rajkumar and Senkumar. Rajkumar is married to Geeta and Senkumar is married to Veena. There are two grand sons. Rajkumar is in  Mumbai and Senkumar is in Srilanka. All are well settled.
